The aim of this table talk is to generate ideas on overcoming some of the challenges of teaching online, specifically the static nature of our curricula. We will seek answers on how to provide unique, authentic learning opportunities. As a starting point, there will be a brief presentation, outlining what ""authentic learning"" means, and the challenges faced in online education. The session will then move to a conversation, in which teachers brainstorm ideas on how to meet student needs. My goal is for the participants to learn to use one of these topics to create a dynamic, engaging homepage. Through my data analysis PLC, I saw that the bulk of my students, percentage wise, never paid attention to the news widgets. If I had information to give them, I did so through email. I shifted gears and created engaging infographics and Smores. I had over 1500 views of my Smores. The Smores contain additional resources, videos, practice sheets, etc., for the students. I actually think the students get more out of the Smores than they do the discussions (I hate to say that and won't say that) or live sessions. I have found that when the Smores are updated, or if a student needs it, I am emailed asking when it will be updated. My co-teachers also use them in their classes. Through the Smores and inforgraphics, the students connect with me and feel I am engaged/invested in their learning.
